What is it about homework that is so unappealing? Perhaps it’s the length of time you have to take out of your free time or the thought of doing even more work after a tedious day at school. But is homework as harmful as many young minds suggest or is it really more helpful than society suggests? I set out on a journey to find out.
As a young person who attends school myself, I am piled with homework day in, day out. On top of the six/seven/eight hours of school per day that I attend, this can prove rather stressful. I do dislike homework, and strongly at that. I have friends who often land them selves detentions for not completing an adequate amount of homework due to other commitments such as sport groups, social gatherings, events and other activities, so, does this mean that because of homework, teenagers are not allowed a social life outside of school? I ask you, is that fair?
What really bugs me is the fact that the homework isn’t always relevant to what you’re working about. I’d be somewhat okay with homework if it weren’t for the fact that it is mostly always irrelevant. Homework should be like revision, right? For example, last year I was doing a unit on poetry in English. You’ll never guess what the whole terms homework was based on? Are you guessing? I bet you didn’t get it right. I bet you. It was about pirates! I mean, pirates? Did you guess correctly? If you, I commend you. I certainly didn’t see it coming.

Now that my rant is over about how much I hate homework, even I have to admit that it has it perks. If anything, homework teaches you the importance of deadlines and prepares you for future jobs where deadlines are essential. They can also be key for revision and upcoming exams.

In conclusion I believe that homework is both harmful and helpful. I believe that it should remain embedded with the school system but the quantity the student recieves should be reduced.

First off I want to say terrific blog! I had a quick question that
I’d like to ask if you don’t mind. I was interested to
know how you center yourself and clear your mind before writing.
I have had a tough time clearing my mind in getting
my ideas out there. I truly do take pleasure in writing but it just seems like the
first 10 to 15 minutes are generally lost just trying to figure out how to begin.
Any recommendations or tips? Appreciate it!
These are great points that need to be discussed. I have always noticed the flaws in the way we teach children. We are still doing it the way the ancient Greeks did, for the most part.

This article was particularly interesting to research for and write seeing as I questioned a variety of people: some still students, others left school and moved on. I was impressed about how maturely some of the still-students answered. A lot of them agreed that it is both harmful and helpful. Most people in my year at school would have said harmful, full stop. 🙂

As a person who made the mistake of dropping out of high school, I have given the subject… no pun intended… a lot of thought.
😆 You dropped out of high school? That’s something to write about.
I am trying to keep this blog a little kid-friendly, because I hope my great grand kids can learn about me through this. That does mean that I have to leave out a lot of interesting stuff.
I understand. 🙂 Nevertheless, you could write a story or something about it? Put yourself as a fictional character.
I may have to start a second blog for the good stories.
