Controversial Essay: Heroes

Heroes. When thinking of the ‘heroes’, what comes to mind? To some, it may be Superman or someone else similar to him who has particular strengths and abilities in which they use to save others. For others it may be some one that has saved ones life or even their parents. It could be the soldiers that fight for your country or the football players that win the matches for your country.

Dictionary Definition of 'hero': 1) A Man of distinguished courage or ability, admired for his brave deeds and noble qualities, 2) a person who, in the opinion of others, has heroic qualities or had performed a heroic act and is regarded as a model or ideal, 3) the principal male character in a story, play, film ect.

The word ‘hero’ can be defined numerous ways. Courage, selflessness, strength (physical or mental). It angers me when one says that a football player or a similar celebrity is their hero. Why? Because they should be one’s role model, not one’s hero. In my opinion, a hero is the men that go out and fight for one’s country. Who risk their life for others good. Who aren’t in it for the payment. That much is obvious because footballers get paid more than soldiers. I think that that is disgraceful.

Please take a moment to respect those heroes who have died (and fought) for their country…

In fact, no. A hero is someone who is courageous and selfless. Someone that’d do anything for others whether it means risking their life trying to do so.

Who is you hero? What are your opinions on heroes? And, most importantly, should a soldier be paid more than a football player? I beg  ask you to comment and let me know.

Also, please share via Twitter, Facebook ect. I want to raise awareness. Thank you.

  1. While I certainly believe that soldiers deserve better pay I guess the problem starts when you try to work out where the money would come from football clubs earn money from ticket sales. sponsorship and merchandising plus onto each player has their own sponsors etc, Would we really want to go down a road where we allowed companies to sponsor our armies? There are not enough people earning enough money for taxes to pay every soldier footballer wages so where would the money come from.

    • I understand your point and hadn’t thought of it before.
Thank you for your input, what you’ve said will play on my mind for the next couple of days and I’ll see if I can possibly come up with some sought of solution. 😉
