Wishlist: a new series where I shall present certain items that intrigue me and have grabbed my interest; items that I wish to purchase in the near future.
Music: Home (Single), Dan Croll
British singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist, Dan Croll’s single ‘Home’ is one that I’ve loved for quite some time. Everything from Croll’s fascinating voice to the intriguing lyrics (“So if you ever come ’round to my house take your shoes off at the door / ‘Cause it’s impolite not to; you’ll be damaging my floor / ‘Cause it’s my home”) appeals to me and this is definitely a track I can see myself purchasing in the near future.
Books: It’s Kind of a Funny Story, Ned Vizzini
I saw the film ‘It’s Kind of a Funny Story’ quite a long time ago now and I’m ashamed to say that I did not read the book first. It was a movie that intrigued me and I found incredibly inspirational and they always say that the book is better than the film…
Like many ambitious New York City teenagers, Craig Gilner sees entry into Manhattan’s Executive Pre-Professional High School as the ticket to his future. Determined to succeed at life — getting into the right high school to get into the right college to get the right job — Craig studies night and day to ace the entrance exam, and does. That’s when things start to get crazy.
At his new school, Craig realizes that he’s just average, and maybe not even that. He soon sees his once-perfect future crumbling away. The stress becomes unbearable and Craig stops eating and sleeping — until, one night, he nearly kills himself.
Craig’s suicidal episode gets him checked into a mental hospital, where his new neighbors include a transsexual sex addict, a girl who has scarred her own face with scissors, and the self-elected President Armelio. There, isolated from the crushing pressures of school and friends, Craig is finally able to confront the sources of his anxiety.
Ned Vizzini, who himself spent time in a psychiatric hospital, has created a moving tale about depression, that’s definitely a funny story.

Film: Nowhere Boy (2009)
Although I wouldn’t say this film was my favourite, I do adore the film. Aaron Taylor-Johnson, in my opinion, was perfect for the role of a young John Lennon as the film tells the story the musicians early life. Both a film that has you laughing aloud and a film that tugs on one’s heartstrings, I’m looking into purchasing the DVD of this 2009 film to watch over and over again.
A chronicle of John Lennon’s first years, focused mainly in his adolescence and his relationship with his stern aunt Mimi, who raised him, and his absentee mother Julia, who re-entered his life at a crucial moment in his young life.
