About

hi, i’m sj

I don’t know whether it was on purpose or simply accident but, nevertheless, I thank you for landing on my blog, Opinionated Duck. Feel free to refer to me as OpD or, even, SJ. (I value Internet safety, hence the pseudonyms.)

Back in 2012 when everything had a gradient overlay,  Opinionated Duck was set up with a purpose: to share my opinions on life and issues that I come in contact with. Since then, it has grown to be so much more than that. It is my creative outlet

Most bloggers have a niche. Let’s start off by saying that I am not “most bloggers”. I have passions in creative writing and literature, design and illustration, business and media, among just some of my interests. This blog does not fit into a category for it is more of an ongoing stream of thoughts. I blog about whatever I am particularly engrossed in at that particular time.

I don’t blog for the popularity or income – because, I don’t make any – but instead I blog because it’s just what I do. Throughout my blogging experience, I have grown so much as a person and learnt so much – and, as far as I am concerned, that education and personal development is invaluable.

A Little Bit About Me

For a writer, I find writing these “about” pages far too difficult because I am yet to truly discover who I am myself. Also, the very idea of believing that others are interested in learning about yourself seems very self-obsessed. Nevertheless, I know that I enjoy a witty or interesting “about” section from time to time, hence I have attempted one here.

Disclaimer: This “about” section will not be “witty” nor will it be “interesting”. Brace yourself.

I’m a Sherlockian, a Harry Potter geek, a lover of all things geeky, I’m obsessed with ducks, I’m in love with Peter Pan, I am a pluviophile (a lover of rain), I despise Comic Sans and once again, I’m a Sherlockian!

You Actually Read This Far?

If you’ve read this far, I must not be as boring as I seem. No, in all seriousness, I commend you. It was an awfully long introduction, even I am one to admit. Despite this, feel free to browse through my posts and interact in my comments. Sharing my posts would be terribly kind of you also, should you wish to. Of course, I’ll return the favour if you ask it of me.

A list of my favourite posts here.

  3. Just wanted to say thank you for stopping by at mine during the A-Z Challenge honey 🙂 xx

  4. A fellow sherlock in AND comic sans despiser? Yeah!

I haven’t had a chance to fully peruse your blog to see if you have any articles up about this, but what kind of books do you read and who is your favourite author? Just curious as to what fellow sherlockians enjoy, that’s all. Also, HOW ARE YOU RIDING OUT THE MONTHS BEFORE SERIES FOUR IS BACK?

    • We might be rare, but we are the best of people.

I read a huge variety of books: JK Rowling, Mark Haddon, John Green, RJ Anderson, JM Barrie being a few of my favourite authors from the top of my head. And, of course, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. As for riding out the months, I am doing so with great difficulty. Often I have friends round for a Sherlock marathon, because who said you cannot watch the same episode more than one hundred times? 😉 How about yourself?

  5. You ain’t boring, my friend. Not at all.

  7. Hi! You have a great Blog name, and people love to read strong opinions. Good strong opinions make for great drama and memorable stories. I perused your blog a bit, and I noticed that you disclaim your strongest opinions before you put them down on the page. When I saw opinionated duck, I was expecting super strong unapologetic opinion. What are your strongest opinions? For instance, I Meg Cook–I absolutely do not agree with people who eat meat. I am vegetarian and I think that is the best way to live life, best for the environment, and best for my health. Stating things this way, will make your theme resonate more (in my opinion;)

    • Hello! Thank you for the great feedback, I’ll certainly be taking on board what you have said. However, I do feel the need to justify myself some:

I think that, with the articles that I have added a disclaimer to, it is necessary to do so as they explore some very controversial topics – such as gay rights, religion ect – and I created this blog to share my opinion, not to disregard others opinions and potentially offend them. I’m not going to take back my opinion, whatever I say, but I’m certainly going to make sure that I show that I’m not meaning to offend anyone.

I don’t know if I’m making clear sense, but, although I somewhat agree with what you are saying, I won’t be removing my disclaimers when talking of *such* controversial subjects. 🙂

Nevertheless, thank you dearly for the feedback!

  8. I love your about me and your theme. I’m a designer as well and ducks are cute! Speaking of ducks..did you see the giant duck from Taiwan? If not a quick search will bring it. Anyway I can’t wait to read more of your posts 🙂

    • Thank you.

I have seen pictures of it, yes. But I didn’t realise it was from Taiwan. By far the largest rubber duck I’ve ever caught a glimpse of.

Thank you! And I look forward to reading more of yours, too!

  9. Ha…I found your blog through Community Pool. Actually, Your introduction is quite cute :-). I think you asked about your blog’s design. Actually, I’m thinking about changing my blog’s theme (another one of the couple I have), and the one you are using is one that I was considering. I think this theme fits your blog well, and I love the duck!

  10. People like you are meant to be in my reader feed.

Your transparency about your intentions is a true gift. I think so many are rather intimidated to be quite frank and forthcoming about their intentions and even where they are presently in their lives. You, on the other hand, are doing what you enjoy for the simple fact that you love it. That openness begets even more openness, that is, in terms of opening doors for future opportunities. I have seen it and I am continuing to see it bubble forth even in the present day.

Thanks for your comments recently. Keep writing!

    • Wow, thank you.

You have no idea how much your comments mean to me. For someone to appreciate my work gives me the motivation to continue with my blogging experience and even my writing journey.

I have to say the exact same thing to you. Thank you for the comments and as always, continue to do what you love. 🙂

  11. Great blog – really simple yet informative and helpful tips! Will be back for more!
