No Effort

I recently constructed a poll asking members of deviantART.com their opinions on people who didn’t know another language (other than their native tongue) and made no effort to learn one.

At 08:32 am (British Time) on the 17 February 2012 the results stood as followed:

10 deviants said Other (comment)
8 deviants said Lazy
7 deviants said Ignorant
6 deviants said Have better things to do in their life
5 deviants said Inconsiderate
4 deviants said Uneducated
3 deviants said Respectful of their ‘superior language’
1 deviant said Awesome
No deviants said Selfish

The majority of opinions shared stated that for one not to put any effort in to learn a second language were lazy.

The comments were filled with mixed reviews. Some stating that without the correct resources, it was hard and sometimes impossible to learn a second language and that if one was provided with the resources, they should grab the oppurtunity and go for it.

Others claimed it was the fact that some people are plain ignorant and that it wouldn’t hurt to learn a language (even if it is the basics such as ‘hello’ and ‘good morning’).

In conclusion, the majority of opinions decided that to not make the effort to learn a second language was negative.

Thank you to every one who helped out with this article. By sharing your opinion, you’ve helped me create my first blog post. (I promise the next one will be more interesting (I may loose the statistics too!) 🙂 )

Signing off,

  2. Some genuinely wonderful articles on this web site , thankyou for contribution.

  3. Thank you so much for writing this article. As the polls show, it seems to be matter of on an individual moivaion and access to resources. 🙂 Thank you again for posting this.
